India e-Visa / Visa Photo (Square JPEG)
Applying on indianvisaonline.gov.in? The upload must be a square JPEG between 350×350 and 1000×1000 pixels with a full face on a plain light or white background. We output 600×600 and keep it under 300 KB.
🔒 100% in your browser — your photo is never uploaded
1. Choose a photo — front-facing, even light, plain light background.
2. Adjust — drag to move, slider to zoom.
3. Optional: replace background
⚠️ Many authorities reject photos that are digitally altered. For the safest result, take the photo against a plain light wall and skip this step.
Background editing is disabled for this photo type because the issuing authority prohibits edited or background-replaced photos. Use a real plain wall.
4. Checks

Automated checks are guides only — they can't judge expression, glasses, shadows or focus.

Upload requirements
- Format JPEG.
- Height and width must be equal (square).
- Minimum 350×350 px, maximum 1000×1000 px.
- File size: minimum 10 KB. The e-Visa page lists a maximum of 1 MB, while the official photo-upload guide for the regular online visa form says 300 KB; we target 300 KB so one file works for both.
- Full face, front view, eyes open, without spectacles; head centred showing top of hair to bottom of chin.
- Plain light-coloured or white background, no shadows on the face or background, no border.
Why uploads fail
The portal rejects rectangular phone photos, HEIC files and large originals outright with an error message. Even when the upload works, applications can be held up when the photo is a selfie with a busy background, has shadows, or shows only part of the head. Downloads here are exactly 600×600, JPEG, and compressed to fit, so the technical checks pass; the composition is up to you.
Regular (paper) visas at missions
If you apply through an Indian mission or its visa centre rather than e-Visa, you fill the form online and paste a printed photo — many missions ask for 2×2 inch (about 5×5 cm) with a white background. Use the 4×6 sheet for that.
Passport scan
The e-Visa also asks for a PDF scan of your passport bio page (10–300 KB). Scan in colour at around 150 DPI to stay under the limit.
Shooting tips
Remove glasses, face a window for even light, keep the background plain, and keep the camera at eye level about 1 m away. Avoid wide-angle selfie distortion — ask someone else to take the shot.
How to make a India e-Visa photo with this tool
- Pick a photo taken in the last few months against a plain light-coloured or white background, face lit evenly from the front.
- The tool finds your face and scales it so the head is about 30 mm tall on a 2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm) photo.
- Drag or zoom until every check is green — the eyes must sit inside the green band.
- Download the 600×600 px JPG (compressed under 300 KB) for online forms, or a 4×6 sheet with 6 photos to print.
