China Visa Photo (33 × 48 mm / 354 × 472 px)

China uses its own photo size, 33 mm × 48 mm, and the online visa system wants a 354×472 px JPEG of 40–120 KB. These are among the most precisely specified photo rules in the world — here they are in full.

Printed photo (for the form)

Digital photo (online application)

Chinese embassies now use the online visa system at consular.mfa.gov.cn, which needs a digital photo:

This page outputs exactly 354×472 px and compresses to 120 KB or less. The preset places the top of the head 4 mm (about 39 px) below the top edge and shows a check for it.

Pose and appearance

Face the camera with the whole head visible, eyes open, lips closed, ears visible, and a natural expression. Head turned no more than 20° left/right or 25° up/down. Glasses are allowed except thick frames, tinted lenses, or glare. Hats and scarves only for religious reasons with the face fully visible. Avoid light-coloured clothing that merges with the white background.

Printing

A 4×6 sheet fits nine 33×48 mm photos. Print at 100% with no cropping, then cut along the guides. Several consulates warn that edited or composited photos are refused, so start from a well-lit original on a white wall.

How to make a China visa photo with this tool

  1. Pick a photo taken in the last few months against a white or close to white background, face lit evenly from the front.
  2. The tool finds your face and scales it so the head is about 30 mm tall on a 33 × 48 mm (1.30 × 1.89 in) photo.
  3. Drag or zoom until every check is green — the eyes must sit inside the green band.
  4. Download the 354×472 px JPG (compressed under 120 KB) for online forms, or a 4×6 sheet with 9 photos to print.
